Don Spetner

Don Spetner serves as a strategic advisor to the corporate communications and public affairs functions for major organizations.  Don has over 30 years of experience in the communications field, having served as the Chief Communications Officer for three global, publicly traded firms.

Prior to starting his consulting practice, Don was Executive Vice President for Corporate Affairs for Korn/Ferry Int’l. (KFY)  In his time at Korn/Ferry, Don served as the Chief Marketing Officer, the Chief Integration Officer, and the head of R&D, overseeing a staff of 12 industrial and clinical psychologists.  In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Don served as a partner in the Corporate Affairs executive search practice where he recruited the chief communications officer for client companies, including Chevron, Yahoo!, Genentech, Microsoft and The Los Angeles Dodgers, among others.

Before joining Korn/Ferry, Don was Vice President, Corporate Communications and a corporate officer for SunAmerica Inc., (NYSE:SAI) a $56 billion (assets) financial services company that was acquired by American International Group (AIG) in 1999.  At SunAmerica, he oversaw all advertising, public relations, executive and employee communications and worked directly for Eli Broad, Chairman and CEO.

Prior to SunAmerica, Mr. Spetner served as Vice President, Corporate Communications of Nissan North America, (NSANY) overseeing corporate branding, public relations, community relations, crisis management and all other communications activities for the automotive giant.  At Nissan, he served as a member of the North American Management and Operating Committees.

Earlier in his career, Don spent 10 years with three major public relations agencies – GCI, Bozell Inc., and RuderFinn Inc.  Don was elected a member of the Public Relations Seminar and the Arthur Page Society, and served as Chairman of the San Francisco Public Relations Academy.  He was named an “Industry All Star” by Inside PR magazine, and his essays on communications have been published in PR WEEK, The Journal of Corporate Public Relations and Public Relations Quarterly.

Mr. Spetner is Chairman of the Board of Overseers for Emerson College, and a member of the board of directors of the Saban Community Clinic. He is a past president of the board of directors of the Japan America Society and has served on the boards of directors for the American Council on Exercise, Century City Hospital, the Lagrant Foundation and the Tomas Rivera Policy Institute.

Don graduated Summa Cum Laude from New York University with a degree in journalism, and is co-author of The Public Relations Writer’s Handbook, published by Jossey-Bass.
